5 Things You Can Discover in Western Australia – Best Travel Guide

June 28, 2022 By Eileen Williams Leave a Comment

When picking where you want to go the whole world is your oyster. With plenty of natural wonders to go about, it can be difficult to select the best place to visit. Luckily for you, Western Australia is incredibly vast and diverse, in both natural and cultural aspects. One-third of Australia is considered Western, and with that comes all sort of incredible landscapes.  There are all sorts of natural wonders to witness, ranging from unbelievable stone sights, Aboriginal heritages and unbelievably clear ocean waters, Western Australia is the best choice to make.

1. Lay back and relax at Rottnest Island

For starters, the quiet and serene Rottness Islands boast an almost negative carbon footprint. Declared a car-free island, its peaceful vibe and calmness seep into you seemingly unnoticed. With beautiful beaches that are being washed with the endless sounds of the pristine clean ocean, it will be hard for you to leave this place. The highlight of the island and the must-see attraction are the local quokkas. This tiny rodent-like marsupial is what caused the Dutch explorers to name this Island. Almost indigenous to Western Australia, they are very rare and well worth your time.

2. Gastronomical delight

One of the best ways to experience any country is thru its drinks and food. Western Australia is the host of the appropriately named Western Australia Gourmet Escape festival. It starts in November, and countless local and international chefs come to make the best dishes out of local ingredients. Markets, presentations, workshops, tastings and dinners are readily available at the event and will surely please the demands of taste buds. Pair up the delicious food with some of the amazing wines from the Swan Valley and Margaret River, and you have a guaranteed recipe for a good time.

3. Adventurous marine expedition in the Bremer Bay

Perth is the capital of West Australia. Thanks to its economic boom from mining, it became one of the biggest cities in Australia. With skyscrapers, apartments and exuberant entertainment venues, the city offers a lot to those who seek a more urban vacation.

On the other side, those who are adventurous by nature can see the beating hot heart of the vast desert nearby. Red sands in all specters stretch out till they reach the blue ocean. Near- endless stretches of white-sand beach, wild red gorges, and seemingly unnatural rock structures covered with wildflowers are all just some of Western Australia’s stunning natural attractions.

Those that seek a more marine type of expeditions can venture a bit to the south, towards Bremer Bay, roughly 500 kilometers apart from Perth. Bremer Bay is built on the shore and you will be surrounded by beautiful beaches from the get go! Once there, your options range from booking an unforgettable ocean expedition with Whale Watch Western Australia, and see the amazing whales. There will be no shortage of unforgettable adventures to have in the Bay and it will warrant a second visit.

4. Explore the pristine Cable Beach in Broome

Cable Beach is Broome’s most famous place and even wither in the whole of Western Australia. Imagine walking alongside a seemingly never-ending beach shore (that’s 22 kilometers long) that’s backed by red cliffs on one side and bleached white beaches on the other.  Cable Beach got its name when people stretched the communications cable between Broome and Java way back in 1889. Rent out a four-wheeler and blaze thru the scenery, taking every moment of it. After a long day, slouch back and watch the sunset on the horizon, as you meld into the background, with the ocean washing away your troubles.

We recommend not visiting during the November till May period as the dangerous Irukandji jellyfish are found in the waters here. No sense in ruining your vacation with jelly stings. But you can swim at other times of the year as it is open season and you have nothing to worry about. One more adventure, besides renting a vehicle is renting a camel. That’s right, you can rent an all-natural four-leg drive and explore the area as the ancients did.

5. Horizontal Falls for maximum enjoyment

If you wish to disappear from the grid, then the outmost, rugged and wild Kimberley Region is ripe for you. Packed with adventures to be had and sights to see, you will get to experience the famous wilder sides that Australia has to offer. Forget the standard way of viewing waterfalls from a distance and a platform. Here the most popular way is via a jet boat ride through the spectacular Horizontal Falls.

Try to imagine colossal tides of up to 11 meters that try to squeeze through two narrow gorges. This curious natural phenomenon can only be seen here, and it is like nothing you have ever seen. Keep in mind that the only way to get here is via seaplane or jet boat. Luckily there are organised tour departures from Broome and Derby.

Adventure awaits for you to be found and experienced. You won’t see anything new from your couch, but only when you are out and about, exploring all the nooks and crannies of the world. Western Australia is ripe and perfect for would-be explorers and travelers that want to see something brand new. There is no place like it on Earth, and you can barely see all it has to offer in one visit. Which makes it ideal for you to visit again and again. We wish you all the best in your future adventures!
