As I stuffed the last of the eggshells down the disposal Easter morning, it came to me that eggs truly are a sign of spring. They represent life: the promise of hatching and, when decorated for the holiday, the color of springtime. I started thinking that perimenopause is a little like winter—an often gloomy season replete with nerve-wracking turbulence and frequent storms. But, just like the dawn of spring, full-fledged menopause brings a fresh start, renewed vigor, and the blossoming of new hope—a renaissance of sorts—a true second season of life.

My friend, Raven Blair Davis, is a case in point. Until she reached her mid fifties, she lived a normal, rather ordinary life—going along and acting in ways others expected of her. But a family crisis changed all that and Raven ran smack up against her destiny. She was to become the “Talk Show Maven” and connect with people she never would have imagined she’d meet.
