Baby boomer women who regularly read Feisty Side of Fifty are probably aware of my admiration for my friend and fellow blogger, Gregory Anne Cox. Greg is a research junkie and continually posts the latest health and wellness information on her resource-rich site, Midlife With a Vengeance. I invite you to check it out and also to sign up for her Audio Postcard. Greg leaves no stone unturned and you’re guaranteed to get the latest developments and critical information you’ll need to keep you fit and fabulous after fifty.

Now, she’s taking her work one step further and has gathered together several of the nation’s top experts in the health and wellness field to present a one-of-a-kind teleseries. The programs, although varied, are each packed with information that will have you feeling and looking great in no time. And, the series is FREE!

The topics Greg’s experts will cover run the gamut from bone and heart health, to finding and sustaining inner peace, to that all-too-common bugaboo at midlife: taming the muffin top and halting the hips from unrestrained expansion.

At 3:00 p.m. ET on nearly every weekday in September, you’ll be treated to the best, most cutting-edge information the industry has to offer—and it’s all focused on the needs of us gals on the far side of fifty. In fact, Greg’s named her broadcasts the “Midlife Women’s Mind and Body Experts Teleseries.”

Moreover, these folks truly know whereof they speak. Greg has gathered together an amazing group of well-known specialists including nutrition experts, master teachers, life coaches, authors and more.

Take a look at the website. There’s a WIIFY (what’s in it for me?) page, a “Meet the Experts” page, a Series Schedule, and a FAQs page. Greg’s laid it all out so you can make the most of the information her panel will share. Also, if you have a conflict and need to miss a call, you can listen to the session for up to 48 hours after airing. Better yet, you can upgrade to VIP status, get recordings of all the calls, and an added super plus: additional phone time with Greg. This will ensure you can implement all the wonderful tools and tips you’ll learn and truly transform your health and wellbeing.

So give yourself a very special gift that will keep on giving and sign up. As Greg puts it, this series will “fire you up and give you the goods to rock the second half of your life!”

I admit it! It’s time to remove my tongue from its resting place—planted firmly in my cheek—and fess up. I know it’s difficult to fathom, but the doctor’s advice in my last post wasn’t real. Although I do believe in the sentiments I expressed (the media’s obsession with frightening women over fifty with dire news listing all the health maladies soon to befall us), you can’t really get your daily serving of vegetables by eating foods deep-fried in vegetable oil!

(However, I do wonder if this might actually be true for my favorite friend food—corn chips! If I could list these delectable treats under the healthy food category, I’d crunch my way through the day and be one very happy camper, indeed!)

Yet, it’s mea culpa time so, for my second confession of the day, I wouldn’t even consider the doctor’s contention that, because pigs dine mostly on vegetables and grains, “eating pork chops can give you 100% of the recommended daily allowance of vegetable product.” In truth, I’ve been a vegetarian for over 20 years.

Now, admitting my dining preferences isn’t a call to anyone to forgo meat in your diets. However, there are several benefits to eating more vegetables on a daily basis. My friend, Magnolia Miller, over at The Perimenopause Blog, shares some great recipes aimed at diminishing the belly fat that plagues so many of us older gals. Her recommendations are delicious, packed with veggies, and you can find them under the “recipe section” on her blog.

One of my favorite blogs, Midlife with a Vengeance, is constantly providing us midlife gals with cutting edge information on health and wellbeing. A researcher at heart, Gregory Anne Cox shares her tips for eating right, taking supplements to ward off disease, the right kinds of exercise, etc. Wander on over to her site and take a look—you won’t be disappointed and I guarantee you’ll learn a lot.

And last, but definitely not least, is a wonderful website aimed at vegans and vegetarians, In a Vegetarian Kitchen. Even if you’re an omnivore, you’ll love these recipes. Nava Atlas is the author of a number of cookbooks filled with nutritious and satisfying treats. (No worries that your family will complain of eating rabbit food and leave the table hungry .) One of my all-time favorite cookbooks is Nava’s Vegan Soups and Hearty Stews for All Seasons. I had a few friends over for lunch this week, served up her “Moroccan Lentil and Chickpea Soup” and gratefully accepted the rave reviews. Believe me, Nava’s recipes are stick-to-the ribs delicious!

You can also check out my interviews on Feisty Side of Fifty Radio with Magnolia, Greogory Anne, and Nava as they share their insight and information on aging with health and wellness.

So, even though the “doctor” in my earlier post proclaimed: “What does a cow eat? Hay and corn. And what are these? Vegetables and grains. So steak is nothing more than an efficient mechanism of delivering vegetables to your system,” I’d advise you to check out these sites, try their recipes, eat your veggies as they come from the earth (not from a cow), and see how you feel. Forget the doctor and do what granny said. You’ll lose weight, recharge your energy, and kiss your muffin-top good-bye!

As women over fifty, we already know the secret: Although younger women will never believe us, far from being on the downhill of life we’re just reaching our peak. Surveys show we’re happier and more fulfilled at this age than ever before. You can validate these sentiments for yourself by asking any female friend who’s already blown out fifty candles on her birthday cake. It truly is our time to shine!

However, as with many other aspects in life, God has a sense of humor. Just when we’re feeling stronger, more outspoken, and more focused on our SELVES than we were in our younger years, our bodies may start to rebel. We already know the less-than-stellar realities of hot flashes and meno-pots. So what’s a gal with drive and a feisty spirit to do?

Well, my fellow blogger, Gregory Anne Cox, has the answers. I’ve mentioned her blog, Midlife with a Vengeance, many times on Feisty Side of Fifty because she provides the latest information on health and wellness for us in the “female over fifty” set. Now, I’ve had the wonderful experience of interviewing her on Feisty Side of Fifty Radio. My aim for the show was to ask her how we can keep ourselves energized and feeling great at this stage in our lives, and how we might best provide our bodies with some special TLC.

The interview lasts 30 minutes and it’s packed with information. Gregory Anne covers such vital points as the number one threat to our health, why comfort foods may not be all that comforting, the role of supplements, and the critical importance of sleep among many other important topics on health and well being.

We’ve given so much of ourselves away over the years; now it’s time to reprioritize our priorities and give our SELF her due. So take the time to nourish your body and soul and put your SELF at the top of your list. After all, if not now, when? And, at fifty plus, you’ve earned some things—you truly do deserve the very best!

For hundreds of years older women have been shuffled off to the sidelines of life, their options reduced to becoming either doting grandmas or doddering dowagers. Thank goodness that limited and lackluster destiny ended a dozen or so years ago when the first of our age group turned fifty.

Women of our generation weren’t about to take any of that old garbage and lived up to our reputation of loudly and forcefully carving out a totally new role for the female of the species—whatever her age. In fact, this latest revolution was the boomers’ BOOM heard ‘round the world! Now, women past fifty are the hottest thing on the planet (yes, marketing and the media are finally taking notice) and we’re growing ever more powerful as our numbers increase each year.

But to make the most of this amazing time in our lives, we’ve got to make wise choices about our health, mental outlook, and general wellbeing. To these ends, I’d like to share with you a super site that’s dedicated to keeping us “fit, healthy, sassy and sane.” Midlife With a Vengeance” says it all. The name refers to the energetic orneriness we old gals can achieve when we’re feeling our best.

Take some time to peruse the many articles and check out the latest tips on supplements, exercise, diet and more. You can sign up for a weekly mind and body tune-up and have a 3-minute audio delivered to your email for free. Also, take a few minutes to give Gregory Anne, writer, chef, coach, and wellbeing specialist, your thoughts on your own midlife story by answering her brief survey.

A final thought from one ornery old gal, me: Each of us has paid her dues and we’re entitled to living our very own midlife with a special brand of vengeance. So let’s get fit, get healthy, get feisty, and grab the gusto by living our lives to the fullest.

Remember—nothing can stop a woman of maturity who’s feeling her zest and knows she’s ripe and ready to take on the world!
