So true, and it's also why men find it difficult to verbally express emotions. Not enough gray matter connecting the experiences with the words that describe them. Poor things, they are as frustrated as we are with them!

What a great site! I've survived the hot flashes and many interesting twists and turns of the 50's and now in my early 60's my husband and I are exploring downsizing and creative retirement. I decided to create a blog of my own to share my musings and experiences with others in the same boat at justabackpackandarollie.wordpress.com (if it doesn't fit, we don't need it. I'd love to hear from you all! We're all in this together.

Hi Eileen, I love your site! I am feisty at 58, and have just launched my new business/website, www.sleeveywonders.com from an invention of mine. Sleevey Wonders are reversible slip-on sleeves made to wear under all your sleeveless and strapless clothes to beautify your arms and expand your wardrobe. They are made of 4 way stretch to gently hug and slim your arms, and have no shoulder seams, so they give the illusion of being part of your top or dress! They can take one little black dress and turn it into multiple outfits when paired with different styles or colors of sleeveys, and one pair of sleeveys looks equally great under a casual tank or an elegant gown! Tame that arm waddle and update your wardrobe at the same time!

I had a similar bout of rage when a series of junk mail letters with "over 50's discount" emblazoned in red on the outside of the envelope landed in my mail box. I hate junk mail and I especially hate junk mail that tries to exploit and pigeonhole's me because of my perceived 'old age'. I sent each back unopened with a less than complimentary remark on the outside of each envelope. Childish I know but it made me feel heaps better :-D

Wow! Then into the 90's and assumptions that we couldn't travel if we were married. Then even 5 years ago, the same questions. I try to look at the age of the person asking the question, and hoping that younger folks don't have those inherent biases. Keep watching, waiting and hoping. Adding a beauty, self-perception challenge to the issue just makes it more frustrating! Come on ladies!!!

At 58 one of the girls in my office said I shouldn't be telling my age. I found that strange. I'm not ashamed of it so was a bit perplexed. I would worry about getting another job which pays what this one does if I had to start again.

My Bill is finding at age 56 that he is overpriced for jobs given his skill set. Employers are looking for cheap and that usually means young. But I also believe we can make change happen. We aren't over the hill or set in our ways. Most of us have that valuable experience if we could only sell ourselves better. Thanks for the info. Maybe it will also help me keep my job for a few more years.
