As long as there have been rational humans walking the earth, mankind’s greatest mystery has remained the same: is there life after life?
Dr. Raymond Moody was one of the very first mainstream doctors to broach the subject in his groundbreaking work, Life After Life, published in 1975. As a physician, Moody had long been interested in accounts of patients who had returned from a Near Death Experience (NDE) with stories of their journey to an afterlife. Almost all of these encounters bore similar characteristics: the patients left their bodies, traveled through a tunnel, met with relatives who had passed on and felt bathed in a soothing white light of immense comfort and love.
Moody shared his conclusions by stating: “I don’t mind saying that after talking with over a thousand people who have had these experiences, and having experienced many times some of the really baffling and unusual features of these experiences, it has given me great confidence that there is a life after death. As a matter of fact, I must confess to you in all honesty, I have absolutely no doubt, on the basis of what my patients have told me, that they did get a glimpse of the beyond.”
But experiencing an NDE is not the only way to have a personal connection with the afterlife. My guest on Feisty Side of Fifty Radio, Sharon Prentice, PhD, had just such an experience when her husband died. She accompanied him as he crossed over, leaving her body and feeling a floating sensation that propelled her far from the earth she knew. At some point, however, they parted—her husband to move on to continue his journey to the other side and Dr. Prentice to return to the earth plane and to her body.
I had not known of the Shared Death Experience (SDE) until my interview with Dr. Prentice. Her account was spellbinding to say the least and I encourage you to listen to her other worldly experience.
Dr. Prentice writes about her SDE with great sensitivity and insight in her beautifully crafted book, Becoming Starlight. It is with great personal pleasure that I suggest you check that out as well as her website. Dr. Moody was, in fact, so impressed by Dr. Prentice’s account that he wrote the foreword to this remarkable book.
Whatever your religious beliefs, this is a story you will want to hear. Whether you adhere to an organized religion, consider yourself an agnostic or believe in a Universal Spirit, I encourage you to check out this extraordinary glimpse into the afterlife. We can long debate the ways of righteousness here on earth. Yet, if Dr. Prentice’s experience holds true for all of us, we are each destined to become starlight… and I can’t think of anything more glorious than that!
