Are you one of the millions of baby boomers who are choosing to forego traditional retirement in favor of continuing your work life? If so, you will probably want to explore careers that provide, not only an income, but also the opportunity to find more personal meaning from your work.
The mission of Encore.org is to build a movement that taps into the skills and experience of those in midlife and beyond to improve communities and society as a whole. In other words, Encore specializes in promoting “Second Acts For the Greater Good.”
Activist and encore careerist, Betsy Werley, has found her third and extremely rewarding career. After working as a lawyer and banker, she launched her own “second act for the greater good” at age 50. She was Executive Director of The Transition Network, a national organization for women 50 and forward. Now she leads the Encore Network, a global coalition that views people over 50 as a resource for social impact.
I enjoyed the immense pleasure of interviewing Betsy and asking her all about the Encore movement. If you are a boomer who is looking to find purpose, passion and a paycheck, be sure to check out this show. It’s a mere 15-minutes, but it could well change your life. You won’t want to miss the strategies and suggestions Betsy has to share.
We each want to make the most of the years we have left to us. Your own second act can not only provide greater good for society as a whole, it will give you the satisfaction and the knowing that your efforts hold real meaning. And when you think about it… what greater reward could this special time of life bring to you than that?
