America’s #1 Interview Coach Shares Insights With Women Over Fifty
If you’re a woman over 50 and looking for work, you may be feeling like the odds are stacked against you. But Carole Martin, America’s #1 Interview Coach, is optimistic that older applicants can and will do well. Although there are such unfortunate realities as ageism and sexism in the world of work, there are also ways to get around these.
Carole knows whereof she speaks. As the subject matter expert and contributing writer for Monster.com for ten years and also the author of eight books on the topic of interviewing, Carole shares her valuable tips for acing the interview on Feisty Side of Fifty Radio. (It’s just 15 minutes, so give it a listen.)
Carole also shares her personal philosophy, “it’s never too late to change or improve your life,” and she’s living proof of that. In midlife, Carole was forced to reevaluate her entire reality as she lost both her parents and her husband to death and her children left home to pursue lives of their own. At that point she decided to go back to school for her Master’s Degree in Career Development and, at the age of 55, Carole achieved her goal. After that, she never looked back.
One of the best aspects of being an older woman in the 21st Century is the fact that many of us are blessed with choices. How fortunate we are that personal meaning does not end when our nest empties and the children leave. Far from it! For many of us, this next chapter of our lives brings fulfillment and rewards we could never have imagined in our younger years. As Carole put it: “the choices that weren’t there before are now here.”
So, if you are in midlife and looking for work, I’m thrilled to announce that my new book for jobseekers over 50 is due out any day. Carole has been kind enough to give it her blessing and I know you’ll find it helpful. Check back soon and I’ll tell you how you can get your copy. And, if you’re scheduled for an interview and want to really wow ‘em, be sure and visit Carole’s site.
The 21st Century is all about choices and women over fifty are choosing to go after their dreams—so head on out there and make yours come true!

Thank you for your great interviewing tips. I also work with baby boomer population who are addressing many issues including the search for new employment. Although I have searched quite a bit, I have yet to find a comprehensive website for jobs targeting this population. Does anyone have a recommendation for such a website? Thanks for any help you could give me. dorothy

Amazing how many people are looking for work at a time when we are supposed to be “retiring”. The one thing about being a person over 50 in today’s world is that we do have those choices and we are sufficiently “anti-old” – thanks to our unique experiences in our youth – to look for them and take advantage of them.
