Anti-Stress Strategies for Women Over Fifty
First thing this morning, I turned the page on my day planner (yes, I still have one of those), only to come face-to-face with the date that sends shivers down my spine each year: December 1st—the kick-off of the winter holiday season. Now, I can ho-ho-ho with the best of ‘em but, being a woman over fifty, I’ve had my fill of the stress that often accompanies this time of year. Although I’ve definitely cut back on the cards, the cookies, the shopping, and the sending, I still feel my blood pressure rising with the thought of all I’ve got left to do.
Thankfully, I recently interviewed Kathi Casey on Feisty Side of Fifty Radio, and she will definitely make my yuletide less stressful. Kathi is also known as the “Healthy Boomer Body Expert.” In fact, she produces her own weekly TV show called “To Your Health,” and has developed programs and products to end chronic pain, enhance your immune system, reduce stress, lower blood pressure, and laugh yourself well with Laughing Meditation!
Kathi gave me some great tips to manage stress and, as far as I’m concerned, there couldn’t be a better time to use them. They’re quick, simple, free, and easy and I’d love to share them with you. The first is a one-minute breathing exercise that will oxygenate the body and relax you—perfect to do while you’re standing in endless lines trying to purchase last minute gifts. Another is a fabulous technique to use on your upper shoulders where so many of us carry our tension.
I purposely entitled this post “Anti-Stress Strategies for Women Over Fifty” because holiday stress seems to bypass the male of the species and land squarely on us. So give yourself a holiday gift and take a listen to this short, fifteen-minute broadcast. Better yet, it’s both cost and calorie free! So de-stress your holidaze, your body will thank you for it.
And for the perfect present for your favorite couch potato; check out Kathi’s latest book, “Get Off The Couch, Potato!” It’s a fun and adventurous beginner’s fitness program that you can start while lying on your couch watching TV. Oprah plus exercise—sounds like the perfect New Year’s resolution to me!

I’ve been keeping an online journal/scrapbook on http://www.myheartwill.com, in order to de-stress during this hectic time. Uploading years of my family’s memories (letters, pictures, etc.)and see it all come together online, makes me realize why this time of year is so special.

My stress-less dream of a Holiday season? A 2 week cruise from Christmas through New Years. Nothing but sea, sun and scads of martinis and not a Black Friday in sight!

“Holidaze”! Love that, Eileen! You’re so clever! What a wonderful thing to offer ’round this time of year. I applaud your consideration (for all of us!). One last thing: I wrote a funny little snippet last year about men and the holiday (shopping) thing. I thought you might enjoy it! http://bit.ly/7gdb16
