The Best in Fashion for Women Over Fifty
I don’t know about you, but sometimes I find myself in a fashion rut. I’m not even sure what’s in and I generally go for the same thing over and over. I’ve heard similar complaints from my friends. Whether it’s a certain style (I tend to go for turtlenecks and slacks or jeans) or a favorite shade or color (a number of my friends have a closet that runs the color gamut from black to navy blue), there’s a whole lot of “been there-done that” going on in boomer wardrobes.
What a pleasure it was to finally learn some ways to break out of that rut! My latest guest on Feisty Side of Fifty Radio was Ginger Burr. She runs her own business, Total Image Consultants, and is an expert on all things fashion and style. Best of all, she’s a GROWN UP and knows what looks good on “women of maturity.” The topic of the show was 7 Steps to Aging with Style and Grace and Ginger is really up on her game with plenty of great ideas and suggestions.
If you have any doubts about what you’re wearing on your back (or your hips), take a listen. We held a special 30-minute broadcast because there was so much material (and I’m not talking about hips again!) to cover.
You’ll learn the #1 style tip for looking great at any age, how to stay cool in hot summer weather, and keeping current while still remaining age appropriate, among other pointers. (We’ll be doing an entire program on “looking age appropriate while staying stylish” in the fall. You’ll want to be certain to catch that one, too.)
We gals are feeling great, keeping our feisty spirit, and bursting through age-barriers left and right, so we might as well look hot while we’re doing it all. And besides, true to our generation, we gotta keep blooming—our flower power depends on it!

Didn’t read this blog in time to catch your show. However, I’m sure there were some great tips given. Now that I’m older I tend to stay on the convervative side with my dressing, but do enjoy wearing clothes that are accentuate shape and express great colors.

Thanks for the tips! I’ll admit I’m not much of a fashionista so any advice I can get on looking stylish without looking like I’m try to be 20 again is welcome. Time to go shopping!

And don’t forget your most important fashion accessory, a smile! I tend to like classic fashions and lines, mostly because I have the antithesis of a model’s figure (short and squat intead of tall and thin). Still, I appreciate this great resource, Eileen. Lots of times little twists on old standards make for a stunning new look. Also, the best thing I ever did was to get my colors done by a group of people in the SF Bay Area who are all artists and personalize the swatches to each individual’s coloration, hair, and features, not as “boilerplate” as the four seasons approach. Thank you!

Luckily, I still have my own personal fashion consultant with my soon-to-be-20-year-old-daughter. She keeps me in check when I am preparing to step out of the house. She challenges me to look my best at all times and although it gets frustrating at times, I really do appreciate it.
