Women Over Fifty—Hatch Your New Beginnings

As I stuffed the last of the eggshells down the disposal Easter morning, it came to me that eggs truly are a sign of spring. They represent life: the promise of hatching and, when decorated for the holiday, the color of springtime. I started thinking that perimenopause is a little like winter—an often gloomy season replete with nerve-wracking turbulence and frequent storms. But, just like the dawn of spring, full-fledged menopause brings a fresh start, renewed vigor, and the blossoming of new hope—a renaissance of sorts—a true second season of life.

My friend, Raven Blair Davis, is a case in point. Until she reached her mid fifties, she lived a normal, rather ordinary life—going along and acting in ways others expected of her. But a family crisis changed all that and Raven ran smack up against her destiny. She was to become the “Talk Show Maven” and connect with people she never would have imagined she’d meet.

Hear her fascinating account of revolutionizing her life and realizing her dreams. (My interview with her on Feisty Side of Fifty Radio—about fifteen minutes and well worth your time.) Raven has gone on to host and produce three Internet Radio Shows as well as an AM radio program, Careers from the Kitchen Table. She’s interviewed megastars from Jack Canfield and Joe Vitale of The Secret to actresses like Jayne Kennedy, Denise Nichols, and Victoria Rowell. Adding to that list are Claudette Robinson (of Smokey Robinson and the Miracles fame) and Denise Brown, sister of Nichol Brown Simpson. You can check out her site and listen to these amazing interviews.

Raven has also authored the popular home study course “Kitchen Table Radio.” For those of you who may want to hatch your very own radio show, I highly recommend this wonderful course. The Internet now provides opportunities for each of us to have access to the airwaves. So, if you’ve ever had any thoughts of becoming a host, Raven has a special offer: if you mention either my name or Feisty Side of Fifty, she’ll give you a whopping $200 discount. If you’re interested, you can reach Raven at raven@womenpower-radio.com. She’ll be happy to answer your questions and give you a fifteen-minute free introductory session.

Whatever method or means you use to break out of your shell, think of the egg and its amazing powers: you may have to peck a bit but you’ll emerge bursting with the energy of new life. What better way to celebrate spring and the beginning of your very own second season!

Sometimes at the Spring Equinox, my friends and I put the metaphorical seeds we want to hatch in those colorful plastic eggs. This is more or less our manifestation list, written on a slip of paper, the things we wanted to plant and nurture. We can open the eggs and see how they’re blooming as the year goes on, until we harvest them in autumn. I had never thought of applying this seasonal metaphor to menopause. That’s a true touch of genius, Eileen!

Spring is very special. It tells us so much about life and hope and potential. I believe it speaks to us at a much deeper level than most are willing to admit.

I find spring such a refreshing time of the year. Easter brings with it the sweet scent of what is to come – summer. I hadn’t thought about it but wether it’s coloring an egg or a new hatching breaking free of it’s shell something new is emerging. Enjoying your site

Raven is one of several members of Boomer Diva Nation who discovered their passion–their new beginnings at midlife. It just goes to show you you’re never too old to pick up your torch and run (or walk) with it into your destiny.
